2/28/2011

Ok so méxico is going great, the flight was long, this past week has been crazy. Normally you get  a native companion to train you down here, i got a huero like me (white man), its a monterrey word. its 80 degrees here (around there i don´t know if thats the translation for 30 C) anyway, my first day I had to go to the consolate to get my mexican papers and turned out that i had to come back the next day to finish it all up. the  first thing we did when we got to our area however (which is named Tacubaya) is start contacting. i`ll try to attatch (sorry about the spelling there is only spanish keyboards here which is hard enough without worrying abut spelling) but my companion said 'we´ll start with that house', and i replied 'what house?' their houses here are more like cement shed/shacks with a nice interior, if you´re lucky. i´ve been in pleanty of homes that sould be condemd but the people are happy none the less. but there are metal bars/gates/guards on everything, i´ll try to post pictures, but idk when. the people live in shacks but leve their homes looking like 1,000,000,000 bucks. its a little strange in my opinion. I can understand whats going on most of the time unless the people slur their words, which happens alot... or if they talk too fast... but he knocked on the first ´door´ and said 'this is all yours' i did just fine, to his suprise haha, the people here tlk just to talk and sometimes its so random and off subject i don´t no what to say so i just sit there and stare at them or i just turn away (only with missionaries or members does this happen) and then they make fun cause they think i don´t understand, they call me huero and start lauging until i say ' entendio perfectamente solo no se como responder a commentrios equis.' i understand perfectly i just don´t know how to respond to such random comments, then the joke is on them which the people can appreciate lol. but our second day were were tracting and hadn´t had any luck we had just had a lesson with an investigator (blanca) across from the street from the house we were in front of and we knocked and the girl that answered the door was in my companion´s words: (translated) 'its not fair when they are that beautiful!' (daniela) she was really pretty, however i could see that she had a child, the culture here is much different than mormon stndards. anyway we gave a contact on modern prophets, revealation and the restored gospel, we asked to teach her more fully expecting to be rejected! suprisingly, she was going to let us in, however she was the only one home, so my companion told her we would come back when there was a man home (he´s a bit awkward) the next day i went on splitz to a different area, it was ok nothing much too exciting happened, but when i got back the next day my companion told me i would not believe what happened. when we walked away from that girl every instinct in my body was screaming we needed to teach her, but we left her with a pamphlet about the restoration, when my companion went to Blanca´s house, guess who was there, yep, daniela, they also had a member with them, yep that girl not only needed to be taught but waanted to be too, she said that night she couldn´t sleep until after she had read the pamphlet! she had even prayed and gotten a testimony of Joseph Smith! she has a baptism date set for the 20th. we have 4 other investigators with dates and 6 more we are going to set dates for tommorrow. i´m excited! we had a family referenced to us on saturday from another missionary who found the father in a park in a different area. they are a family of gold, they want to find a way to be clean of there sins and none of the churches they have tried has worked, hopefully we can get them baptized. :) anyway thats the story for this week :) talk to you in 7.

So I am now in Mexico, I arrived at 5:30 your time, and believe it or not i´m slightly confused as to how the key board is put together it is a little different. We went and ate our first mexican meal at a mexican restraunt in Monterrey, tomorrow i meet my trainer, élder Murphy, my first area will be tacubaya its a suburb in monterrey. The people are awesome! i In mexico city Elder burdett had some trouble getting his baggage checked, with his limited spanish he managed to talk himself into paying extra when he didn´t have to, so while he was getting it sorted out, i took the opportunity to talk to one of the security guards, we started talking about his Job, then it moved into where we were going and why, i shared the message of the restauration and shared my testimony of prophets and what they do. i started to introduce the book of mormon and he asked to buy it before we finished it! haha well we didn´t sell it to him but we did give it to him and he was very excited to get it, he hadn´t ever heard anything about the mormons and seemed excited to get the book of mormon. Anyway, everything is good and i´m safely in Mexico, Loving thhe few hours i´ve been here, btw dad they serve wasabe peanuts on mexican airlines, thought you would like that, anyway until monday, (which is my new p-day)

I talked to Paden for an hour this morning.  He called from the airport in SLC.  He flies out to Mexico City and then on to Monterrey.  He is very excited to be out of the MTC.  He said the best way to write him from now on is thru his email.  I have it posted on the side.  Shelly

Yep! You guessed right! I'm still in the MTC!!! YAY!! i love the sarcasm i'm implying with this statement, i was reassigned last thursday to Arizona, However, the very next day after i got to call home i got my permiso, which is permission from the mexico government for a visa to be issued to me. So I go to salt lake tomorrow at 1:00 to the consolate to sign the paperwork. I am pumped I'll be in mexico before the end of this week or by the begining of next week :) I'm super pumped to actually do what i've been studying for the past 2 months. About half our district is already gone out of 8 5 remain, Elders Aleman, Marsh, and Atkinson are already in the real world :) I have a few pass along cards and a book of mormon to hand out and 2 spanish Books of mormon as well. It has taken forever and gone quick at the same time, also the easiest way for pretty much everyone to contact me will be through e-mail so its pallen@myldsmail.net, I look forward to hearing from everyone, sorry the dear elders won't be effective anymore and i heard that in the mission field mail is distributed every 6 weeks at zone conferences, I'll let everyone what the real story is once i get there, i probably won't be sending anymore packages from mexico, and btw i have been packed for like a week now and my 2 check luggage bags can weight 50 and my carry on can weigh 40, well... my cary on is 37 along with my small check and my big check is 27 so i will have pleanty or room to bring home souvenirs etc. but we'll worry about all that when the time comes. I will be able to call from the airports i will if i can so mom keep your phone handy but that is the latest up date hope to talk to u all soon!
Sincerly,

Ok so Just a few things, I have No idea whats going on with my visa i find out for sure either tomorrow or on thursday after lunch, Right now its looking like temp-assignment, whuich is fine as long as i can leave the mtc to do it lol i may also have my permiso which would make me have to wait a week or two before going straight to mexico, there were a couple kids here going to mexico who waited for 3 and they left after being here for 12 weeks. that would suck! I am no longer district leader which basically just freed up my schedule to do a lot more studying on sundays. the last week i got to be a new missionary host and guess who i got to take away from his aunt and uncle, show him where his room was, and get him to his first district? Yep! Steven Anderson :) it was way cool, i also spent alot of time hanging out with Elder KEvin Anderson who was also a host. I get to host again tomorrow, other than that life is pretty normal for mtc normality, oh! we taught a trc investigator ( a volunteer to let missionaries practice on her.) We taught the 'situation' which was the second lesson, and the word of wisdom, it was a good lesson until we got to the word of wisdom. Then It just got awesome! The spirit got stronger and we started whipping out scriptures, questions, and testimonies about the word of wisdom. It was way cool and when we challenged her to live the word of wisdom she said si (she didn't speak any english) and she was about to cry. After we said the closing prayer she told us that the things we said to her weren't things her character needed to hear but things she needed to her in her own life, she is a member but struggles with the word of wisdom, and we helped her strengthen her resolve to quit drinking, it was a way suprising fact to find out and it made me feel grateful to be worthy to be the Lord's tool and The Spirit's mouth piece. I love the mission and i'm not even out yet, just from this expirience.
That sucks for olivia's hand hope it gets better, and i'm sure whoever you sell clancy too will be glad to have the help of a good horse, doesn't suprise me dad lost his glasses or that dillon thinks he is boss or that the dog barks lol oh and i didn't even know who was in the super bowl until one of the new missionaries in our zone who got here yesterday said that the packers won..... sorry todd. Anyway hope life continues to go good there and just remember what doesn't kill you wil only make you stronger.
 Love,
~Elder Allen
p.s thanks for addressing your letter :)

This week was great the spirit has been strong in our new companionship! We've been doing awesome teaching the lessons and have been studying up a storm. I've finally figured out a sick scripture marking system and have since been pumping out anywhere between 7-20 scriptures per lesson. tomorrow we host the new missionaries who are coming in which will be awesome we've been waiting for this chance for about 2 weeks. we're some of the 'oldest' missionaries in the MTC now and everyone comes to us for help on pretty much everything. but thats the update this week, we started a couple progressive investigators which has really helped our planning skills.... because now we have something to plan for..... Haha anyway this week has been awesome and super fast! I hope to hear from all of you soon!!!i can't think of anything i need.... although ties and food are always apprciated ;) I love you lots!!
~Elder Allen
p.s. btw dear elders are not dated so if you all could dated them when you send them that would be amazing!! thanks a bunch!! :)
